John M. "Pogie" Kalinowski, age 76, of Harborcreek Twp., passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, following an extended illness. He was born May 2, 1937 in Erie, son of the late John and Stella Kalinowski.
Pog was a 1955 graduate of East High School. He then enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard where he had served four years. He had been employed by the former International Paper Co. and General Electric until his retirement in 1999.
Pog was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also bred and raised beagles, enjoyed vegetable gardening, travel, and loved his Austin Healy and his boat. One of Pog's biggest enjoyments in life was his friendship with his long-time buddy, Chris Lischerelli, with whom he would often take long car rides in search of the next big adventure. Pog will be sadly missed by many dear friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandra L. Gigandet Kalinowski; three sons, John (Lorraine), Gary (Dea) and Bob Kalinowski. Five grandchildren, great-grandsons, and one cousin, Mildred Desser, also survive.
