Mark E. Benecki Obituary

Mark E. Benecki, age 66, of Conneaut Lake, Pa. passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 10:19 p.m. at UPMC Hamot Hospital, Erie, Pa., following a long battle with lung cancer.

Mark was born October 15, 1947, in Erie, Pa. the son of the late Edward Benecki and Helen (Somolani) Benecki. He married Margaret Ann (Molly) Magee on September 27, 1969. She survives.

Mark was a 1965 graduate of Cathedral Prep and attended Gannon University.

Mark served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1969, first in the United States then Germany and finally in Vietnam. Upon his discharge from the military, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Erie, Pa. as a city carrier, then Bradford, Pa. as a supervisor of Customer Services. He then was the Postmaster at Conneaut Lake, and finally Edinboro, Pa. as Postmaster, retiring in 2002.

He joined the Conneaut Lake Lions club, September 1, 1985 and served as secretary from 1986 until 2009, then from 2011 until his death. He received a Lions District 14-F Leadership Medal for the 2006-2007 Lions Service Year and a Melvin Jones Fellow award in 2013. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church in Conneaut Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Molly Benecki; two sons, Gerard Benecki M.D. and his wife, Beth of Silverdale, Washington and Brandon Benecki and his wife, Kara of Ocracoke, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Aldyn Benecki, Dylan Benecki, and Alexis Benecki; his step-mother, Laura (Borkowski) Benecki of Erie, Pa.; a half sister, Ann Marie Barone and her husband, Art of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a step-brother, David Heinrich and his wife, Linda of Erie, Pa. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws; Judi Chiaramonte, and her husband, William, and Linda Ballas and her husband, Joseph all of Erie. Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 30,2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013, with Father Jeffrey Lucas, officiating. It was Mark's wish to be cremated.

The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake, Road, Meadville, PA 16335
