Michael John McArthur, age 62, passed away peacefully at home in Harborcreek, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 18, 2013, after a nearly two-year battle with cancer. He was born on January 1, 1951, in Erie, the son of the late Elroy "Mac" McArthur and the late Lucille McArthur Aitken.
Mike was a 1969 graduate of Harbor Creek High School and graduated from Penn State University
with a mechanical engineering degree. His most recent employment was at MPE Machine Tool in Corry where he retired after nearly 20 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Bread of Life Roman Catholic Church.
Mike was an avid supporter of all his children's sports teams and had a special relationship with his two grandchildren, Ben (Lil' Rip) and Lola (Boo) Mozdy. Best known for his quick wit, Mike always wanted it to be noted in his obituary that he was a proud member of Sam's Club. If Mike was around, you could count on a good laugh. Also known for his work ethic, Mike built his family's home, where they still live, when he was just 27 years old. He worked on the design and remodeling or construction of major portions of all three of his children's homes, and enjoyed the challenge of any plumbing, electrical, construction, or automotive problem. His family and friends relied upon Mike to problem-solve and help them with their projects big and small. Most recently, Mike took on the challenge of building his own street rod from the wheels up.
Mike and his wife, Karen Crowe McArthur, who survives him, have been together since they were 14 and 15 years old. They married on September 8, 1973. He is also survived by his daughter Kelly Mozdy, her husband Ron, and their children Benjamin and Lola; daughter Katelyn Danowski and her husband Jason; and his son Pat McArthur and his wife Jen. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Hoover and his sister Kathy McCoy and her husband Howard. There are also many nieces, nephews, and cousins who survive.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th St., Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and to attend prayers there Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph/Bread of Life Community at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
