Rafalle (Ralph) P. Barzano, age 92, of Erie, passed peacefully to his Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at home. He was born January 29, 1922 in Erie, the son of the late Aneillo and Maria Annuziata Barzano.
Ralph was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and served with the Merchant Marines during WWII
. He later worked at Griswold Manufacturing and Marx Toys until 1957. He then became a flooring installer for Sears and also owned and operated Gem City Beer Distributor with his brothers and sister. Ralph then started his retirement career as a salesman for Budweiser with Erie Beer Co. having worked for John T. McCormick, Sr. and his sons.
Ralph was an avid bowler who enjoyed bowling with his brothers in the Gem Club all brothers league. He was also an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed following the activities of his children and grandchildren. He held memberships in the Siebenbuerger, Sunflower, East Erie Turners, South Erie Turners, and the Gem clubs in Erie and he loved to teach his sons how to use tools and repair things around the house and car.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Restivo Barzano; a son, Ralph Richard Barzano who died in Vietnam; brothers, Samuel, Michael, Joseph, Neil, and Vincent Barzano; and a sister, Mary Tomzcak.
Ralph is survived by his second wife, Dolores Gross Barzano; a son, Neil T. Barzano, Sr. and his wife, Lisa of Fla.; a brother, John T. Barzano and his wife, Irene of Erie. He is the grandfather of Christine Divell (Derrick), Richard Barzano, Melissa Lindenberger (Edward), and Neil Barzano II (Julie). Ralph is further survived by 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Monday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend prayer services there Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul's RC Church. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Regional Hospice, 3526 Peach St., Erie, PA 16508.
