Raymond J. Brown, age 90, of Erie, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Elmwood Gardens. Born in Erie, August 26, 1922, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Mary M. (Murtha) Brown. Raymond graduated from Central Career and Technical School and worked as a Master Carpenter for Hamilton Lumber. He served in the U.S. Army, during WWII, where he served with the 1st Army, 7th Corps and landed on Utah Beach in the second wave of the D-Day Invasion. He drove a Half Track with Anti-Aircraft Artillery and fought his way through France and Belgium, fighting many battles, including the Battle of the Bulge, before entering Germany. Once in Germany his unit liberated concentration camps and served in Mannheim after the war. He was honorably discharged and came home in 1945 with five Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He went back to work at Hamilton Lumber, where he worked as Head Carpenter and retired after over 40 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Kevin Brown; two brothers, Robert and Joseph Brown and three sisters, Margaret McLaughlin, Rita Trojan and Elizabeth Donahue. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie E. (Kelley) Brown, of Erie; two daughters, Maureen Trott, husband Michael, of Erie and Colleen Russo, husband Richard, of Morristown, N.J.; two brothers, Eugene Brown, wife Mary Ann, of Erie and John "Jack" Brown, wife Nancy, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren, Lauren Russo, of Astoria, N.Y., Emily Russo, of Providence, R.I., Meagan Trott, of San Mateo, Calif., Seth Trott and Grace Trott, both of Erie. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 W. 38th St., on Monday at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with full military honors.
