Richard Alex, age 82, a resident of Erie, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Edinboro Manor. Born March 30, 1931 in Erie, he was the son of the late Peter and Vera Fedchenia Alex.
Richard was a graduate of Technical Memorial High School and a veteran of the United States Navy
. He spent his career of many years in the Erie area working in the Tool and Die industry.
Richard loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also always very active at First United Methodist Church serving on the finance committee and as an usher on Sundays. Fishing and golfing were two of his favorite activities that he enjoyed with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Vera Alex. Survivors include his loving wife, Ida Byrd Johnson Alex; three sons, Richard P. Alex, wife Veena, of Albuquerque, N.M., Brian Alex, wife Susan of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Sean Alex, fiancé Amy Simola, of Lake Park, Fla.; two daughters, Debra Jensen, husband Michael, of Somerset, N.J. and Brenda Borgia, husband Joseph, of Waterford; eight grandchildren, Erica Lea Nott, husband Zachary, SPC US Army
Marc Borgia, Heather Arcabascio, husband Anthony, Julie Jensen, Jennifer Alex, Johnnie Alex, Brianna Alex, and Bethany Alex; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Joseph and Giuliana Grace Arcabascio; four siblings, Peter Alex, wife Barbara, Judie Alex, Mike Alex (and longtime companion, Shirley Shoup) all of Erie and Patricia Alex Bullings-Nolan of California. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory at 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend James Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
