Richard M. "Rich" Oncea, 66 of Girard, died Thursday February 21, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 24, 1946 in McKees Rocks, Pa., a son of the late John James and Mary Juddo Oncea. Rich graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was later deployed to Vietnam, where he served 2 tours on the frontline motor transport units. Upon his discharge from the Marine Corps, he returned to Erie and worked for many years at the Finestra Corp. and was most recently employed at Wal-Mart. He attended Bethel Assembly of God Church in Girard and was a member of the Girard American Legion Post#494. Rich enjoyed fishing for Perch on Lake Erie, trying for the big jackpots of the PA lottery, shooting various guns from his collection, hunting for sport, and any opportunity for a steak dinner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Helen Kohut Oncea. He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his wife, Lorraine Klimek Oncea, whom he married December 10, 2011; a daughter, Corrie E. McNally (Chris) of Girard, two stepsons, James Birkmire (Suzelle) of Crowley, Texas, Kevin Birkmire of Pittsburgh; a sister, Lois Bartos (Donald) of Erie; two brothers, Jack Oncea (Judy) of Erie, Ronald Oncea of Santa Cruz, Texas; a granddaughter, Kendall McNally; several stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard, Services will be held there on Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev.
