Richard Russell Davis Obituary

January 31, 1928 to January 15, 2014

Richard Davis, 85, of Elizabethtown, Pa., formerly of Maricopa, Ariz. and Millersville, Pa., passed away suddenly, Wednesday afternoon, January 15, 2014, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Erie, Pa., he was the son of the late Marabelle Blum Davis Rinke and stepfather Joseph Rinke. He would have been married 62 years, this coming April, to the love of his life, Ellyn Oler Davis.

Richard graduated from Academy High School and served with the Navy after graduation. Richard worked his entire career at General Electric, DC Motors Division, Erie, as a mechanical designer, retiring in 1993 after 45 years of service. He adored his dog "Abel" and cat "Archie," and was the number one fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Blackhawks, and Cleveland Browns.

Richard loved traveling, coin and stamp collecting, auctions, dog shows, gardening, and horse racing. He was an accomplished and avid bowler in previous years. He drove Chryslers his entire life. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed western novels. His perfect meal would have been prime rib, mashed potatoes, iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and Italian dressing, and red raspberry pie for dessert.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by daughter Sue Davis Bocchicchio, and son-in-law Keith A. Bocchicchio, all from Elizabethtown, Pa. He will be missed more than anyone could ever imagine.

A brief service honoring Richard's life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sell Chapel of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Pa. The family will visit friends, following the service, at the Lodge Dining Room, where a light lunch will be served. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an animal rescue of choice. Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd., Elizabethtown, Pa., has been entrusted with the arrangements.
