Roger W. Apthorp, age 66, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012, at the V.A. Medical Center. He was born in Dunkirk, N.Y. on October 28, 1946, son of the late George W. and Joyce Collins Apthorp. He had lived in the Fredonia-Dunkirk area for most of his life. Roger was a graduate of Fredonia High School, class of 1965. He joined the U.S. Air Force in July of 1965, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. Roger was employed with Great Lakes Colored Printing, in Dunkirk, as a pressman, for 21 years, retiring in 1991. Later, he was employed with Anderson-Hiedel, out of Sarasota, Fla., where he was a regional Manager-Supervisor of maintenance in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. Roger is survived by his loving partner, Janet Pierce; one son, Todd W. Apthorp, of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Sharon Apthorp, of Rochester, N.Y.; his extended family, Virginia Kawski (Scott) of Erie and Jill Snow (Steven) of West End, N.C.; Grandpa Rogers' grandchildren, Joshua Kawski (Christine) of California, Melissa and Jerrett Kawski, both of Erie, Rebecca Mazanowski (Joe) of North East, Brandi and Brook Snow, of West End, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
