Silvio Gerbi, 92, of Erie, died, Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Saint Mary's Home of Erie, after a brief illness.
He was born October 3, 1921 in Erie, a son of the late Vittorio and Leonetta Bonicoli Gerbi.
He served in the United States Army during World War II
, as a Master Sergeant.
Silvio co-owned and operated DiSil's Cafe.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, John Leath.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ada Panicco Gerbi of Erie; one daughter, Denise G. Leath (Vaughn) of Wilmette, Ill.; one son, Bruce J. Gerbi (Diana) of Mendota Heights, Minn., and one sister, Lorraine Squeglia (Richard) of Erie. He is also survived by three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at Saint Luke RC Church, 421 East 38th Street, at 10 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will be in Calvary Cemetery.
