Thomas Michael Dunmire Sr., age 70, of Erie, passed away at his home on Friday, December 13, 2013. He was born in Oil City, Pa. on July 14, 1943, a son of the late George and Mary Gavin Dunmire.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy
during the Vietnam War
. During that time he served aboard the USS Taussig in the Mekong Delta region. He worked at Zurn Industries and later retired from Riley Stoker Corp. where he was a welder. He was an avid fisherman and loved his Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Thomas Dunmire and one brother, Robert Dunmire.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan L. Dunlap Dunmire; his sons, Thomas M. Dunmire Jr. and his wife, Paula Lynn of Erie, Andrew M. Dunmire and his wife, Daniele of Lynn, Mass., Joseph Dunmire of Erie, Charles DeMetro of Erie; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dunmire of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Austin C. Zaczyk of Riverview, Fla., Alyssa K. Dunmire, Rachel E. Dunmire, Logan T. Dunmire and Bower Morrow; one brother, George Dunmire and his wife, Karen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504 on Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Bob Lewis. Military honors will be provided by the United States Naval Reserve Center of Erie. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
