Thomas R. Barnes, age 76, of McKean, Twp., formerly of Parkside at Westminster, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Williamsport, Pa. on February 28, 1936, the son of the late, David J. and Elizabeth A. O'Connell Barnes. He enlisted in the USAF in base security and served in England where he met his wife to be, Elizabeth (Beth) Ann Ward, of Cambridge, England. He was a member of the VFW Lodge 4496 in Candler, Fla. and the FOE in Silverside, Florida, was a life member of the Meadville Club, a member of St. Francis Ushers Club, the VFW in Meadville, the Vernon Central Hose Co., and FOE in Meadville. He was employed at and retired from Erie Penelec in 1991. He was a football coach for St. John the Baptist Church from 64-68, high school basketball coach for the students at St. John's, and was a PIAA high school official for football and basketball. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Ward Barnes, of McKean, three sons: Patrick A. Barnes (Marilynn) of Rigby, Idaho, Frank J. Barnes (Lesa) of McKean, Larry J. Barnes (Connie) of Thomasville, N.C., one sister, Noreen Wayland of Wilmington, N.C., three grandchildren: Joshua, Johnathon, and Janet Barnes McMillion, five great-grandchildren: Lexxi, Cheyenne, Ryle, Tylor, and Kandice. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Vath and two brothers; David J. Barnes, Jr. and Richard Barnes. Private funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA of Erie County, 2253 West Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506 or to the .
