"Loving Father and Grandfather" Thomas Russell Sechrist, age 72 of East Springfield passed away on April 9, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family. Thomas was born in Erie on July 6, 1939, a son of the late Phillip Bible Sechrist and Catherine (Salchli) Sechrist. He was raised and educated in Erie County. In 1957 he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was stationed at Paris Island, Camp Lejeune, and Camp Geiger. After his discharge from the military in 1961 Thomas enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserves. While in the Reserves he served in Erie at the Forth Truck Company and in Buffalo on the USCG Icebreaker, Ojibwa and was discharged in 1965. He worked at Hammermill Paper Company following his service to his country until his retirement, then worked for A. Anthony after he retired. Thomas was a lifetime member of the Springfield VFW, Post 4965. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, meeting his friends out daily and his dogs. He loved making people laugh and bringing smiles to everyone's faces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Kosobucki Sechrist and his second wife, Maureen Pratt Sechrist; two brothers, James Sechrist and Phillip Sechrist; and his grandson in infancy, Mark Pappas. He is survived by his three daughters, Brenda Dudek and her husband Richard, Terri Sprague and her companion, Mark Pappas, both of Fairview, and Bonnie Blackmer of Albion; two sons, Timothy T. Sechrist and his wife Laurie of Girard and Russell L. Sechrist of Albion; sister, MaryAnn Sechrist of Ky.; brother, Ronald Sechrist and his wife Norma of Phoenix; twelve grandchildren, Jami, Leann, Heather, Shannon, Tiffany, Linlee, Kelsey, McKenzie, Kyle, Kaylyn, Tommy and Zack; and three great-grandchildren.
