Walter E. Schultz, 83, a resident of the PA Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Erie on November 2, 1930, a son of the late Walter F. and Laura E. Beightol Schultz.

Walter proudly served his country with the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. He went on to work for Bondy and Stone and Moss Builders, before becoming self-employed as a contractor in the construction industry. He was a member of various Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also a member of the Polish Foresters and the Polish Falcons Clubs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Schultz; one brother, John P. Schultz; one sister, Elizabeth L. Miller; and his former companion, Virginia Buczyinski.

Survivors include two sons, Eric J. Schultz and his wife, Christine, and Thomas Schultz, all of Erie; two sisters, Barbara Schultz and her companion, Frank Fratus, and Laura Dewart and her husband, Thomas, all of Erie; four stepchildren, Helen, Robert, Leroy, and Darlene; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Additional calling hours will take place on Friday morning at the PA Soldiers' and Sailors' Home from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the PA Soldiers' and Sailors' Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family, in care of the funeral home, in order to benefit the PA Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, in memory of Walter.

The family would like to thank the PA Soldiers' and Sailors' home for the loving care given to Wally over the last nine years, especially Unit B nurses and staff.
