Wilbur H. Brown, 92, of Albion, Pa., passed away Saturday morning, August 2, 2014, at Elmwood Gardens in Erie, Pa. He was born August 4, 1921 in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of Otto and Esther (Brown) Brown.
Mr. Brown was a graduate of Rowe High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, serving in WWII
. He was co-owner and baker for the Electrik Maid Bakery in Conneaut, Ohio, Browns Donuts in Fairview, Pa., and he and his wife, Dorothy, owned Brown's Bakery and Country Store in Cherry Hill, Pa., in which they retired in 1995. He was an avid farmer.
Mr. Brown was a member of Stateline United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club, and the Masonic Lodge #304 in Albion, Pa. He enjoyed bowling and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Evelyn (Karl) Nitschke of Union City, Pa., Kathy (Allen) Denham of Sanford, N.C., Sandy (Daniel) Malena of Albion, Pa., Becky (Dave) Blair of Millcreek, Pa., Karen (Calvin) Sturtevant of Conneaut, Ohio, Ralph (Nancy) Brown of Erie, Pa., and Paul Brown of Millcreek, Pa. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and his sister, Donna Mae Hoffeditz of Brazil, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy M. (Eaton) Brown of 68 years, whom he married on July 3, 1945; his great-grandson; and his sisters, Dorothy Hicks and Helen Wiley.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with his grandson, Rev. Keith Nitschke, Assistant Pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the W L D Ranch. The contributions will be used to help children attend summer camps. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
