William Vicos, age 87, of Erie, was surrounded by his family's love when he passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the VA Medical Center Hospice. He was born in Erie, Pa., on October 3, 1926, the son of the late Peter and Alexandra Rizzos Vicos.

Bill was the proprietor of Vicos Sunoco Station for 30 years, until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII, and then a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corp. Bill was an avid golfer and hunter, and previously a member of the Lakeview Country Club. He was a former member of Tyrian Lodge #362 F & AM, the Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Erie, the ZemZem Shrine and the Mercy Hilltop Center.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Heinrich Vicos; two sisters, Bessie Cummings and Mary Phillips, and one grandson, Christopher Whitford.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Kraus of Millcreek; two stepsons, Charles Whitford (Nancy) of Pittsburgh, William Whitford (Gretchen) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one sister, Athena Prill of Bronxville, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Mary Beth Beeson, Dr. Ted Whitford (Carolyn), Tim Whitford (Michelle), Jenell Corey (John), Eric Kraus (Erica) and Tiffany Kraus-Chumbley (Darin); 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, 536 W. 10th St., on Saturday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Sunday at 1 p.m. A Full Military service will follow at Mary, Queen of Peace, conducted by American Legion Carl Neff Post 571. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Duane Kraus Memorial Scholarship, Mercyhurst Prep School, 538 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16504.
