Wilbur Harned Obituary


Loving Husband, Father and Papa

Wilbur Royce "Red" Harned joined the church triumphant on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at his residence on County Line Road in Corry, Pa., surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born on September 5, 1927 in Edinboro, Pa. to the late Lynn and Edna Cole Harned.

Red joined the U.S. Air Force during W.W. II, which included a tour in Japan. He married Pearl Harned on July 30, 1949. He was an excellent provider, raising four children, and involved with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Red was a well-known successful business man, starting his own appliance repair business in Corry in 1956, and opening his own store, Harned's TV & Appliance, in 1969, and the Titusville store in 1981. He was in business for 44 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 264, American Legion Post 365, and the Canadohta Lake Senior Center. Red enjoyed golfing in the North Hills golf league, deer hunting, and camping at the Albion Community Fair, Wildwood, Florida, and Evergreen Lake Park in Ashtabula, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Pearl, and brothers, Leslie, Arnold, and Norman. He will be greatly missed by his children: Terri Harned Snell and her husband, Gary W., of Corry, Ken Harned and wife, Mary, of Union City, Jim Harned and wife Gwen, of Corry, and Jan Harned Donoghue and husband, Mike of Corry. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren ,and 15 great-grandchildren: Michael (children Adrianna, Lauryn, & Sarah Grace Snell), Dejah Snell Springer (husband Curt, children Mackenzie, Lyndzie, and Ethan Springer), Devyn Snell Cashdollar (husband J. D. and daughter Evelyn), Heather Jo Harned, Mandy Harned Parker (husband TyShawn and son Cameron), Jason Harned, Allison Harned ( fiancé Cody), Amber Harned Trask (husband Brian, son Parker and daughter Aspen), Tom Harned (wife Ashley and twins Reed and Vivian), Janelle Donoghue Ransley (husband Matt and son Sidney), Joshua Donoghue (wife Stephanie and children Kendall and Hunter) and Jillian Donoghue and fiancé Shaun Powell. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Doucette, and brothers Jerry Harned and his wife, Gloria, Larry Harned and his wife, Nancy and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Red's strong and courageous life will be celebrated by family and friends at St. Elizabeth Church on Wednesday August 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. Rev. Mark Hoffman will officiate. Interment will follow at Lawn Cemetery in Beaverdam.

Memorials may be made to the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department, 330 Main St., Spartansburg, Pa. or Regional Home Health and Hospice, 13675 Rt. 6, Corry, Pa.
