HANOVER Edmund "Gene" Betz, 93, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of Elizabeth C. (Clark) Betz, his wife of 68 years. Born October 11, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Robert and Edna (Horney) Betz. Gene was retired from the advertising department at Seagram's Distillery in Timonium, Md. Gene was a veteran of the Army, proudly serving his country during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He landed in Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Gene also received the Prestigious Jubilee of Liberty Medal on May 27, 2004, presented by the mayor of Hanover. He was a member of McSherrystown Moose Lodge 720, American Legion Post 14 and Amvets Post 22, both of Hanover, and a life member of the Hanover VFW Post 2506. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two children, James Betz and his wife, Sandra of Perryville, Md., and Carol Moses and her husband, Dave of Hanover; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives will be received 1 p.m. Monday at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 Padonia Road East, Cockeysville, Md., for a graveside service.
