HANOVER Helmut B. Leonhardt, 73, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 7, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of Diane L. (Walter) Leonhardt, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. Born September 25, 1940, in Frankfurt, Germany, he was the son of the late Jakob and Agnes (Helwig) Leonhardt. Helmut was retired from ESAB Welding and Cutting Products after 40 years of service. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Hanover, AMVETS, McSherrystown Fish and Game Association, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country proudly. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Todd. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Denise "Denny" Senft and her husband, Tim of Hanover; his beloved grandson, Todd; and three siblings, Helga Geiman of Thomasville, and Herta Keeble and Heinz Leonhardt, both of Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hans Leonhardt. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Bouchard officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, with military honors provided by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
