YORK SPRINGS Irvin L. Smith, Sr., 87, died Saturday morning, April 5, 2014, at the Gettysburg Hospital. Born November 6, 1926, in Cranberry, he was the son of the late Ira Denton and Lula Stella (Gouker) Smith. He was the husband of the late Frances H. Smith who died February 25, 2013. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving time in Okinawa, Japan. His first job he worked as a bricklayer and stacker but later worked selling used cars and auto parts. Irvin is survived by his six children, Judy Baker and her husband David of York Springs, Linda Wilson of York Springs, Susan Gardner and her husband Benjamin of York Springs, Irvin Smith, Jr. of York Springs, Mike Smith and his wife Teresa of Biglerville, Sandra Grimes and her husband Marlin of New Chester; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Ottomeier; his brother, David Smith; and his son-in-law, Sterling Wilson. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with the Rev. Kenneth Swick officiating. Burial with military honors being presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
