HANOVER Irvin W. "Bunny" Rill, 96, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Homewood at Plum Creek. He was the husband of Mildred R. (Myers) Rill, who passed away November 24, 2000. Born October 25, 1917, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Irvin C. and Annie (Leppo) Rill. Mr. Rill was a long time member of St. Paul's Dubs United Church of Christ, Hanover, where he played in the Sunday School Orchestra and served as a Sunday School Teacher for 45 years. He was also active in the York Co. Christian Endeavor Association and attended the Toland Mission Church in Gardners. An accomplished musician, Bunny played the guitar, piano, harmonica, and accordion with a number of groups including Mike and the Twilight Entertainers, Bunny and the Sunset Valley Rangers, and "Bunny and Clyde". He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country proudly during WWII receiving the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star. Mr. Rill was employed with Hanover Shoe for many years and also worked for Leister Furniture and Hanover Cabinet. He then was owner operator of Rill's Shoe Repair for a number of years until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Rill is survived by his daughter, Arlet D. Chronister of New Oxford; three grandchildren, Michael L. Chronister and his wife, Jane of East Berlin, Michelle L. Shields and her husband, Brian of Chambersburg, and Kelly L. Mower and her husband, Rod of Chambersburg; his sister, Mary Jane Jacoby of Hanover; seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Irvin was preceded in death by four siblings, Claude and John Rill, Jeanette Helwig, and Rozella Mummert. A service to celebrate the life of Irvin "Bunny" Rill will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover 17331 with Chaplain John B. Pinder officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be after 10:15 a.m. Monday at the chapel prior to the 11 a.m. service at Homewood. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will be Michael Chronister, Justin Leese, Lee Chronister, William Dennerlein, Brian Shields, and Rodney Mower.
