YORK Mark Ray Blasser, 87, formerly of Millersburg, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Brethren Home. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Margaret M. (Bortner) Blasser. Mark's first wife, Mary, passed away December 20, 1999. Born May 12, 1926, in Millersburg, he was a son of the late Ray M. and Ivy (Kraber) Blasser. Mr. Blasser was a 1944 graduate of Millersburg High School. He also attended Drexel Institute of Technology where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and lived at the fraternity house. Mark was a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge #304 (Susquehanna) where he was the past Master of Lodge in 1969. He was also a Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts in Millersburg and a member of Gideons International for many years. Mark also belonged to the American Legion, the VFW, and AMVets. Mr. Blasser was an avid model train buff. Mr. Blasser retired from owning his own business as a Franchisee for Service Master after 25 years of service. This is where he met his second wife, Margaret, who was also a Franchisee. Mark and Margaret were married in 2001 and together were members of Hanover Wesleyan Church. Serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Blasser was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Along with his wife, Mark is survived by his daughter, Ann Elizabeth Blasser and her husband, Peter of Portland, Ore.; his son, Andrew Blasser and wife, Denise of Harrisburg; his daughter, Mary Beth Dietrick and husband, Daniel of Phoenix, Md.; stepson, Douglas Street and wife, Betty of Glen Rock; stepdaughter, Marlene Hughes of York; stepdaughter, Martenia Harris of Shewsbury; six grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and 17 step great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Mr. Blasser was preceded in death by his sister, Madeleine Daniels, and brother, William Blasser. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mark will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Hanover Wesleyan Church, 701 Black Rock Road, Hanover, with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.
