Michael Smith Obituary

SPRING GROVE Michael C. Smith, 64, passed away, on June 30, 2013 at York Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Deborah H. (Hoover) Smith; together they shared over 43 years of marriage. Mike was born in York on February 11, 1949, the son of the late Charles J. Smith and Rita (Trulinos) Smith. He graduated from York Catholic High School class of 1967. He enlisted in The U.S. Army National Guard in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1974. After being discharged he worked for Custom Bilt Machinery as a machinist and later as a purchasing manager. When the business closed he and his business partners formed Advance Graphics Equipment of York Ltd. He retired from Advance as Vice President of Manufacturing in 2008. Mike enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay on his boat "ABRA CA DEBORAH". Prior to his boating ventures, he took several boating classes and seamanship courses with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also enjoyed the times he spent at the family camp in Clearfield County with his father-in-law and brothers-in-law. He also enjoyed taking care of his home and property and he cherished the time he spent with his family. Mike lived by the Mantra that only God can be the judge. We will cherish Mike's spirit all around us forever inspiring us to live kind and gentle lives through love in the hope of us all being with him again. Because of this, Michael was a participant in the Gift of Life Organ Donor Program. He was a member of the Allen J. Beck VFW Post #5265 in Spring Grove, Shiloh Post #791, White Rose Lodge #0706 F&AM of PA and the United States Power Squadron-York and a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Mike was predeceased by his daughter April Michelle Smith in 2010. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; his brother, Charles J. Smith and wife Emily of York New Salem; his sisters, Sr. Rita Charles IHM of Savannah, Ga., and Susanne M. Smith of Spring Grove. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis B. (Burns) Hoover; his brothers and sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his bothers, David F. Smith and baby Joseph Smith and his sister, Mary Ann Lutz. "Uncle Mike" had numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He considered each one his favorite. He especially enjoyed mentoring and teaching his young nephews. He will be sadly missed by them all. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, with Rev. Daniel V. Biles III officiating. Interment will be held privately by the family. Family services are under the direction of Irwin-beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC of Spring Grove. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America 800 Corporate Circle, Suite 100, Harrisburg PA 17110. Dear Deborah & my Dear Cousins,

I'm so sorry to hear of Mike. It's a shock to have heard. Mike always was a huge part of our Trulinos family, and will be so missed. I have the best memories of him growing up--always as just a good human, and someone I have always looked up to.

I'm so sorry that I can not be at the service--I now live in Montana, and on business assignment in Ceur d' Alene Idaho. But, please know how much I am supporting you and thinking of all of you.

Fondly,

Jim Drager
