GETTYSBURG Russel H. Potter, Jr., 75, died Tuesday evening, January 1, 2013 at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Laura M. (Panfili-Catchings) Potter to whom he was married to for 51 years. Born on March 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Russel H. and Maybelle (Miller) Potter, Sr. Mr. Potter was the former Police Chief for the Borough of Gettysburg. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1957-1960. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Chief of Police Association as well as the Tri-County Fraternal Order of Police Association. He was also the Chief of Tip Staff Adams County Court House for 17 years retiring in 2007. In his free time he enjoyed cooking and gardening. In addition to his wife Russel is survived by his two daughters, Diana Pfaff, of Biglerville and Monica Rinehart, of Gettysburg; three grandchildren, Emily Rinehart, Jerad Pfaff, Erica Pfaff; two sisters, Girlie Clouse and Dolly Ebersole, both of Waynesboro; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sis Wagaman; and his brother, Robert Potter. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. Burial with full military honors being presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or a Veterans Aid Project.
