NEW OXFORD Sonny Speelman, 82, died Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, at his home. Born December 10, 1931, in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Melvin and Catherine (Wilkinson) Speelman. He was the husband of Betty (Bretzman) Speelman of New Oxford. Mr. Speelman was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for a number of years for York International as a machinist. In addition to his wife, Sonny is survived by his son, Douglas E. Speelman of New Oxford; and six sisters, Catherine Slaybaugh of Gettysburg, Mabel Reed of Gettysburg, Helen Reynolds of Georgia, June Schultz of Hanover, Barbara Spicer of Gettysburg, Nadine Carbaugh, of McConnellsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg Road, Gettysburg, with Pastor Donna Hildebrand officiating.
