HANOVER William T. Mummert, 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Kathleen E. (Klunk) Mummert, who died April 24, 2007. Born December 17, 1917, in Hanover, he was the son of Mertis and Earlie (Houck) Mummert. Bill was retired from Diller Wierman, Inc. after 35 years of service. He was a 1935 graduate of Hanover High School, a life member of the McSherrystown Home Assoc., Hanover VFW, Hanover American Legion, Hanover Fire Co. #1, and the Hanover Moose, where he was past governor. Bill was a proud veteran of WWII serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Army. He enjoyed attending his Army reunions and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are six children, Susan Botto and husband, Charles of Lancaster, Jane Mayers and husband, Charles of Hanover, Diane Leonard of McSherrystown, Joann Miller and husband, James of Hanover, Richard Mummert and wife, Judy, and Jill Poist and husband, Phil, all of McSherrystown; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annabelle Czyzewicz of York. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Poist; great-grandson, Gabriel Mummert; a sister, Jeanne Wildasin; and a son-in-law, Neal Leonard. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with the Rev. Mr. Thomas Aumen officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.
