Zoch, Sr. Claude C.

Claude C. Zoch, Sr., age 85, formerly a Manitowoc resident, currently a Neenah resident, longtime educator died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Alten Haus Assisted Living, Neenah.

He was born in 1928 in N. Fond du Lac and attended and graduated from N. Fond du Lac High School, Class of 1945. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army spending one year as a member of the specialized training program in basic engineering at Michigan College of Mining & Technology. Upon completion, he went on active duty and spent six months with the Japanese Occupation Forces where he was a warehouse foreman. He enrolled at Oshkosh State College in 1947 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1951. He trained for the summer with the 1951 World Champions Los Angeles Rams. He chose to come home and begin teaching, which included four years at Chekek High School and one year at Elk Mound High School. This included not only teaching science, but coaching football, basketball, track and baseball. He spent the 1956-57 year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a National Science Foundation Scholarship and graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Science Education. In 1957 he began his 11 years of teaching Science at Lincoln High School and coaching football, one year in basketball and was also the head track coach. He was then offered a position as Assistant Principal at Lincoln. He was also the Dean of boys and girls plus Athletic Director. He held that position for 20 years before retiring in 1987. After retirement, he enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing and gardening. He also operated a charter boat business for 10 years. Even though he loved his hobbies, there was nothing more fulfilling for him than being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the most loving, caring and giving person his family and friends ever knew and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his three children: Kathy (Frank) Fechter, Robert (Mary Ann) Zoch & Nancy (Randy) Smock; seven grandchildren: Mark (Angie) Fechter, Jodi (Jeff) Kozlovsky, Eric (Jen) Fechter, Dana Bieller, Claudette Zoch, Katie (Brian) Schmitz and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Austin & Gordon; and a sister: Jean. Claude was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Claude Jr.; a grandson: Justin; two brothers: Lawrence & Wesley; and two sisters: Marian and Joan.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S. 14th Street, Manitowoc.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held for both Claude Sr. and his son, Claude Jr., at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Service will be the Rev. Leon Knitt.
