He was a longtime member of Elks Lodge 57 and the G & L Oldsters Club. His nickname "Cowboy," came from his love for horses, western stars, and playing western music on his guitar and harmonica. He and his wife were ardent fans of the Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin sports, and the Milwaukee Brewers, and they loved their time spent golfing.

He is further survived by a sister, Judy (Al) Pedersen of Racine, WI; a sister-in-law, Florence Abbs of North Fond du Lac; and a brother-in-law, Marc (Nancy) Trott of Mayville, WI.
