Earl Douglas Bond Obituary
Bond, Earl "Pookie"

Earl Douglas ("Pookie") Bond, 94, a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 9. He was born July 20, 1919 in Fond du Lac to Hiram and Elisabeth Schaeffner Bond. He married the love of his life, Elaine Lepine, on September 5, 1946.

Earl was an engineer on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 37 years until his retirement in 1983. He served proudly and with distinction along with his 8 brothers in the Armed Forces in WWII. Earl served in the medical core and as a meat cutter. He was stationed stateside, and in the European theater. He was very proud that he was the first to enlist from Fond du Lac County.

Earl loved golfing, crossword puzzles, cooking, coin and stamp collecting, bowling, woodworking, gardening, fishing, and mall walking. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was a founding member of Taylor Park University, with the first several reunions held in his backyard. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine; his son Jim (Mary Nachtway); his daughters, Randy (Joe Aiello); Kerry (Gene Faris); Debby (Andy Lorenz); Lorry; and Amy (Jeff Shaw). Also survived by his grandchildren Courtney DeRusha, Matthew (Rachel Cooper) DeRusha, Angela Bond, Zachary (Carrie Freund) Bond, Justin Bond; Brad (Roseann Lavato) Lorenz; Joshua Shaw, Layla (special friend, Jesse Smet) Shaw, and Alyssa Shaw; three step-granddaughters, Andrea (Martin) Deputy, Cindey (Jeff) Kreinke, and Gina (Randy) Redmann, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Surviving siblings are Allen Bond (Verda), Harold Bond (Virginia), Russell Bond (Marilyn); sister-in-law Lucy Bond; brother-in-law Fred Mann; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tom; granddaughter, Melanie; his five brothers, Hiram, Lawrence, Donald, John, and Howard; and his two sisters, Cleora and Dorothy.

Visitation: will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, from 9 AM to 11:15 AM.

Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Holy Family Parish, 200 S. Peters Avenue, at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Earl's name to benefit Taylor Park and the pool.

"The family extends their deep appreciation to Dr. Michael Sergi, the staff at the Artisan Memory Care and St. Agnes Hospice for their compassionate care and concern."

Zacherl Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
