Olsen, Jeanne

Jeanne Marie Olsen, 88, a resident of Fond du Lac, passed away August 1, 2014, with her husband by her side. She was born June 2, 1926 in North Fond du Lac, a daughter of the late Charles F. "Carl" and Frances Kottling Schalla. On December 31, 1944 she married Harland Christian Olsen at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Rectory, in North Fond du Lac. They would have celebrated 70 years on December 31, 2014.

Jeanne was a graduate of Presentation Grade School, attended St. Mary's Springs Academy and graduated from Horace Mann High School, NFDL. After high school, Jeanne took the civil service test and worked at the Merchandise Mart producing war bonds. Following Harland's military service they returned to Fond du Lac where Jeanne clerked at several retail stores including O'Brien's Dry Goods. She also was employed by Mary Madison Gift Plan, of Madison, having the distinction of being the top sales person for 17 years. Jeanne served as a counselor at the Diet Center. Harland and Jeanne moved to the Town of Byron. During their time in the town of Byron they experienced a U.F.O. in their back yard which was widely sighted and reported in the Reporter and seen by many local residents, they resided there until he retired in 1985 and they moved to Florida. While there they were very active in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. During their time in Florida they experienced four hurricanes within a month during 1995, Bonnie, Charlie, Frances and Jeanne, all family names. They returned to Fond du Lac in 2006. Jeanne is a member of Holy Family Parish, loved music, playing Sheepshead, Bingo, and family gatherings with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, where many enjoyed her wonderful baking.

Survivors include her loving husband Harland, one son, Thomas C. (Mary) Olsen of Fond du Lac, Chrystal (Terry) Kohlman of Fond du Lac, six grandchildren, Joshua (Kay) Kohlman of Madison, Jessica (Jamie) Fritz of Fond du Lac, Margaret Rose (David) Nick of Fond du Lac, Chrystal M. (Mike) Franz of Milwaukee, Jayna (Brian) Hensdorf of Dallas, TX, and Katheryn Olsen(special friend, Mike) of Fond du Lac, six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda and Alex Franz, Miranda Nick and Morgyn and Rylan Kohlman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-mother, Katheryn Lisowe, one daughter, Bonnie K. Eldredge, a brother, Harold Schalla, a half-sister, Myrtle (George) Johnson-Lawson, and half-brother, Edward (Dolly) Johnson.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 200 South Peters Avenue Fond du Lac, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorials in Jeanne's name may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, Fond du Lac.
