LEOMINSTER -- Charles A. "Chuck" Reed, 81 years old of Leominster, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda J. (Hautanen) Reed; three sons, Charles A. Reed, Jr. of Gardner, Perry A. Reed and his wife, Maria of Leominster, and Robert A. Reed of Alburgh, VT; two sisters, Bea Irving and Rose Palmer, both of New York, five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia (Files) Reed in 1979.
Chuck was born July 23, 1931 in Highland, NY, son of Charles and Katherine (Hall) Reed, and had lived in Leominster for the past 43 years.
He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1969. He served in the post-war occupation of Germany and Japan and is a combat Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He received an Associate's Degree in Business from Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner.
He had worked at Fort Devens, Montrath of Groton, and Moore's Lumber in Ayer. Chuck was active in the Boys Scouts of America and served as a Commissioner for the Nashua Valley Council.
REED -- A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 am in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union Street, Leominster. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 5-8 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
