David L. Lahti
Retired Fitchburg Police Officer, Army Vet; 66

FITCHBURG -- David L. Lahti, 66, of Fitchburg, passed away, Saturday, November 16, 2013, in his home.

David was born in Fitchburg on April 2, 1947, a son of the late Leo and Bessie (Connor) Lahti. He graduated from Fitchburg High School, and went on to join the U.S. Army. David proudly fought for his country during the Vietnam War.

In 1969, he joined the Fitchburg Police Department where he served for many years until his retirement.

He always enjoyed working out and weightlifting, so much as to establish the Fitchburg Weightlifting Club. He won many local dead-lifting competitions. During his time with the police department, David played on their hockey team. He was also an avid, talented, and published photographer.

He leaves many extended family members.

LAHTI -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Fitchburg Police Relief Association, 20 Elm St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
