TOWNSEND -- Donald P. Girard, 78, of Townsend, died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Ayer.

Mr. Girard was born in Hudson, MA, February 24, 1934, a son of Irving and Lillian (Morin) Girard and has resided in Townsend for over 40 years. He attended the Hudson public schools.

Before retiring in 2000, Mr. Girard worked as an electrical technician at Hayes Instrument Company in Billerica. Prior to that he worked many years at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington.

During the Korean Conflict he served his country for four years in the United States Navy maintaining the radio equipment on naval aircraft's. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, bingo, bowling, horseshoes, and an occasional trip to Foxwoods. He enjoyed spending time on his Ham radio and operated under the handle "W1FDW". Christmas was a favorite holiday of Don's and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family during that time. From 1970-1975 he served as the president of the "Sixteen Footers Square Dance Club" in Littleton, MA.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Lucy M. (Ordway) Girard; two sons, Donald I. Girard and his wife, Lisa, of Townsend, Randy S. Girard of Townsend; his daughter; Marcia A. Meehan of Townsend and her friend, Mark DeAmicis of Leominister; six grandchildren: Jessica Meehan, Samantha Meehan, Nicholas Girard, Justin Girard, Ashlyn Girard and Cassandra Girard.

He was the brother of the late Robert Girard of Tennessee.

GIRARD -- Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, November 3rd at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main Street (Rte 119) Townsend Center. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information.

Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Townsend, MA.

Calling hours are 5-8 Friday, November 2nd at the funeral home.
