Elise J. Leger
of Gardner, Army Vet; 75

GARDNER -- Elise J. Leger, 75, of Gardner, formerly of Westminster and Fitchburg, died unexpectedly in his home on Friday morning, Dec. 13.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1938 in Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada the son of the late, Alyre and Elise (Cormier) Leger and came to this country at the age of 26. Shortly after arriving in the United States, he joined the U.S. Army and served for six years stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Following his honorable discharge from the service, Elise went to work for the former Decatone Products in Fitchburg, and later worked several years at Vogue Wall Covering in Fitchburg where he was a manager and retired in 2001.

Elise was an avid fisherman who loved going back to Canada to visit family and fish with his brothers. He was also a skilled handyman, and enjoyed gardening and canning. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and lovingly remembered by the many whose homes display his skilled workmanship.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Lana M. (Babineau) Leger of Gardner; a son, David Leger and his wife, Jennifer of Hubbardston; a daughter, Lori Murray and her husband, Michael of Lunenburg; three grandchildren, Rebecca Murray, Hannah Leger, and Nick Leger. Elise was the youngest of 13 children. He leaves three brothers and four sisters, predeceased by five siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LEGER -- His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with a Mass at 11:30 A.M. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St. Westminster. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. A Calling hour in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday morning prior to the funeral Mass from 9 to 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
