G. Vern Brideau

LEOMINSTER -- G. Vern Brideau, 82, of Leominster, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness.
Vern was born in Leominster on January 3, 1932, a son of the late Peter and Ella (Albert) Brideau. After High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy.
Vern's passions in life expanded throughout decades with his involvement in politics, sports, and the community within the City of Leominster In the early 1970's he was a Ward 2 City Councilor. Vern was extensively involved with not only youth baseball, but also the Leominster American Little League Baseball, where he served as President for upwards of 40 years. He was instrumental in making the 12th St. American Little League Field one of the best in the area, and the first to have lights for night games.
His passion with sports brought him to a coaching position with CYC basketball, and also to create the Leominster High Independence Ice Hockey Team. Vern was well known as the Manager and Caterer at the Franco American Veteran's Club for many years. Always an athlete, Vern was able to explore his love of golf while working at the Twin Springs/International Golf Course. Time spent with his family was another enjoyment in Vern's life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Bessie Lucier of Leominster; son, Gary Brideau and fiancée, Debra Cornell of Leominster; son-in-law, Richard Martin of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Julie Maillet of Leominster; son, Paul Brideau and wife, Fran of Leominster; daughter, Marie Moeckel and husband, David of Leominster; son, Dean Brideau and wife, DeeDee of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Danielle Lussier, Erik Brideau, Elise Comelchook, Tiffany Martin, Richard Martin Jr., Bridgette Maillet, Mallory Brideau, Brandon Brideau, Dustin Brideau, and Trevor Brideau; siblings, Eugene Brideau, Roger Brideau and wife, Jeanette; Lorraine LaCross, May LaVenture and husband, Robert, Gerard "Dickie" Brideau and wife, Lucille, Anne Marie Barba, Marguerite Coughlin, all of Leominster; many nieces and nephews.
Vern was predeceased by his wife, Lucille (Charette) Brideau, daughter, Gail Martin, brother Robert Brideau, sisters, Geralda Perla and Jeanne Landry.
BRIDEAU -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, February 10, 2014 with a Mass at Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St. in Leominster, at 11 AM. Burial will be private at a later date. Calling hours will be from 5-8 PM on Sunday, February 9, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Leominster American Little League, c/o Rob Lora, P.O. Box 1487 Leominster, MA 01453.
