of Fitchburg; 88

FITCHBURG -- George F. Averso, 88, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully in his home.

George was born in Fitchburg on September 4, 1925 a son of the late James and Angela (Porrello) Averso. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII, where he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and the WWII Victory Medal. George worked for General Electric where he was a Machinist and a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also belonged to the Eastwood Club, the Eagles, the Elks, and the St. Joseph Club.

George's true pleasure in life was spending time with his son, especially riding their motorcycles together. He was an avid pool player, who won several area pool competitions. He was the City of Fitchburg Pool Champion.

He leaves his wife, Arlene (Sweeney) Averso of Fitchburg; son, Allan W. Averso of Leominster; daughter, Angela L. Dietz of Gardner; step-son, Wayne Robinson of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Anthony Averso and Carrianne Desmaris; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Albert Averso of Fitchburg; sister, Jennie Averso of Leominster; nieces and nephews.

George was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Benito Averso.

AVERSO -- Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg is directing arrangements.
