WELLS, MAINE -- Henry E. Benoit 80, of Wells, Maine and formerly of Leominster died Wednesday August 6, 2014 in Portsmouth, NH. Henry was born November 26, 1933, in Leominster, Massachusetts, the son of Emile and Beatrice (Malo) Benoit.
He attended St. Cecilia's School in Leominster and after moving to Sterling, Massachusetts, attended Sterling Public Schools. He is a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, earning the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. After serving in the U.S. Army stationed in England, Henry returned to Leominster and studied tool making and machine courses at Leominster Vocational School.
In 1957, Henry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Goodale, and they founded Hill Top Plastics in Leominster and spent summers in Wells, Maine. Henry served as President of Hill Top Plastics until 2008. In 1994, after 37 years of marriage, he lost his wife Barbara. In 1999, Henry married Mariene Dargan of Melrose, Massachusetts. They were both part-time residents of Ogunquit and Wells since 1977. They met in Wells, Maine. They resided in Leominster, for 5 years, and then moved to Ogunquit in 2004 and later to Moody. After retirement, Henry loved to travel through the US (especially National Parks) and Europe.
Henry was a member of the Franco-American Vets and remained a parishioner of St. Cecilia Church in Leominster. He also attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wells. He was a naturalist, enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Henry enjoyed clamming during the winter on Ogunquit Beach, monitoring the piping plovers during nesting season and picking blueberries during the season.
Henry is survived by his wife Mariene (Dargan) Benoit, four sisters, Hortense Girouard and Raymonde Sheldon of Leominster, Loretta Bevins of Kent Washington, and Germaine Wilson and her husband Doug of Norfolk, VA, two brothers Gerard Benoit of Leominster, Alfred Benoit and his wife Diane of Fitchburg. Henry leaves many nieces, nephews, as well as grand, great-grand and great-great-grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Armande Devarney, and brothers, Jean-Paul Benoit, Roger Benoit, Gaston "Pete" Benoit, and Yvan Benoit.
BENOIT -- Henry's funeral will be held on August 28, 2014, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 168 Mechanic St., Leominster.
