TOWNSEND -- Jeannette Bernadette (Fortier) Pelletier, 88, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Highlands Longterm Care Center, Fitchburg, after an illness.

Her husband of 61 years, John F. Pelletier, died in 2008. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Mario A.J. Pelletier in 2003, and three brothers, George, Joseph and Paul Fortier, and two preschool sisters, both named Irene Fortier.

She leaves four sons, John "Jack" F. Pelletier and his wife, Charlene of Orange, MA, James G. Pelletier and his wife, Kyle of Venice, FL, Jerry R. Pelletier of Townsend and Jeffrey R. Pelletier of Ashby; two brothers, Robert and Raymond Fortier, both of Fitchburg; and one sister, Yvonne 'Penny' Marble in Texas; six grandchildren; and seven

great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jeannette was a product of Fitchburg and attended St. Joseph's Elementary School. At the age of 16, she left school to help support her family, and contributed to the war effort by working the assembly lines of local manufacturers, making bomb fuses and other armaments.

After World War II, she continued working in the retooling of local industry.

On November 19, 1945, Jeannette married John F. Pelletier, a returning Army veteran. A 58 year resident of Townsend, she devoted her life as a mother and homemaker. She also worked at various local businesses including Tasker Turkey Farm, Elsa Williams, and the Sterilite Co.

A 30 plus year breast cancer survivor, her will and determination to survive, and care for her family, was an inspiration to her sons and those who knew her. Her many interests included sewing, knitting, crafts, flea markets and yard sales.

She was born in Fitchburg, on November 5, 1925, a daughter of the late Alfred and Marie-Jean (Chandonent) Fortier.

PELLETIER -- Jeannette's Funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 343 Water St., Fitchburg. Rev. Joseph Dolan will officiate. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Townsend, MA. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the Highlands Longterm Care Center Activity Fund, 335 Nichols Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
