of Westminster; 61
WESTMINSTER -- John Schramko, 61, of Westminster, died peacefully at home, on Friday morning, February 1, 2013, after a long illness.
He was the son of the late, Francis and Elizabeth (Garrity) Schramko, both of Johnstown, Pennsylvania where John was born and raised. He was the younger of two boys.
Although cut short, his life was full. John received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Thiel College, where he was on the football team. After college, he worked for a year with the National Park Service in Glacier National Park, Montana, working on the trail and safety crew. John had many wonderful memories from that experience. He then continued his education and received a Master's Degree in Business from Penn State University.
John's career was in protective clothing and products. He worked with the Military, and with Fire and Safety. John traveled extensively as Group Product Manager, for Wilson Safety Products, Business Manager, for Chemfab Corp., President, of Trelleborg Viking, Inc., Vice President of Sales and Marketing, of the Glove Corp., and Director of Sales and Marketing, for ArcOne.
John loved skiing and boating; but family was most important to him. He was a beloved husband, brother, uncle and even though he did not have children of his own, his life revolved around his step-grandsons who lived with John and Cindy. John never missed a basketball, soccer or baseball game -- he loved it.
John is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cynthia (Greenwell) "Gilbert" Schramko, of Westminster; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Dianne Schramko of Frankfort, IL; his two nephews, Frank Schramko, of Louisville, KY, and Christopher, from Hinsdale, lL, and their families. He is survived by his step-son, Stephen Gilbert, his wife, Sarah, and their son, Stevie, of Bar Harbor, Maine; his step-son, Geoffrey Gilbert, his wife, Rachel, and their son, Isaac, of Haverhill, MA; his step-daughter, Jaclyn Gilbert, of Gardner, her son, Garrett; and John's step-grandsons, Patrick and Matthew Gilbert, who reside with Cindy in Westminster.
SCHRAMKO -- John was cremated and a family memorial service will be held in the summer on Panther Pond, in Maine, John's favorite spot for relaxation. Memorial donations may be made to the Patrick and Matthew Gilbert Scholarship Fund, Workers' Credit Union, 815 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
