Fitchburg, MA native, Army Vet; 84

PORT SAINT LUCIE, Florida -- Nicholas Martines, 84, died on May 8, 2013, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, Florida, as a result of a traffic accident.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA, the son of the late Anthony and Angela (Calia) Martines. He lived in Port Saint Lucie, Florida since 2001, after moving from Leominster. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He was a member of the BPOE Elks, and the American Legion.

Before retirement, he worked at United Transportation Co. in Leominster, American Hoechst in Leominster, Shepard's Express, X-Surray Transportation of Leominster, and Foster Grant Co., of Leominster.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Y. (L'Ecuyer) Martines; daughters, Judy Van Wert of Leominster; Laura J. Stewart of Yardley, PA; and a granddaughter, Alison Y. Stewart, also of Yardley.

Burial will be in Fitchburg, MA at a later date.
