Founder of the Sterling Veterinary Clinic; 83

STERLING -- Paul V. Kowaleski, D.V.M., 83, died after a brief illness on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

He was born on August 13, 1930, in Gardner, the son of Alexander P. and Jeannette (Rousseau) Kowaleski.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Carolyn P. (Lanza) Kowaleski, who resides in Sterling. He was extremely loving and proud of his three children, Kelli Bravo and her husband, Bill, Michael Kowaleski and his wife, Lisa, and Trish Dettlinger and her husband, Don; and four fabulous grandchildren, Jadzia and Chiana Bravo, and Alexander and Nicholas Kowaleski.

Paul served his country in the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force as a radio mechanics instructor. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1956 and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Society. He then graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Paul was a veterinarian for over 45 years and the founder of the Sterling Veterinary Clinic. He was an avid golfer and skier and taught skiing at Wachusett Mountain for over 35 years. He loved outings with his family, fishing, the ocean and autumn in New England. His sense of humor and gentle spirit made him friends of all generations, and he will be greatly missed.

KOWALESKI -- Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, October 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A private committal service will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a .
