SAN DIEGO, CA -- Raymond E. Desjean 86, of San Diego, CA, and formerly a resident in Fitchburg, MA, passed away after a short illness in San Diego, with his two granddaughters, Mary and Ashleigh by his side.
He was born in Fitchburg, MA, January 16, 1928, the son of William and Ida (Croteau) Desjean. He was raised in Fitchburg, where he attended school and then attended the National Radio Institute in Washington, D.C. where he studied radio and television repair.
He worked as a dispatcher 38 years in the highway dept. for the City of Fitchburg, and then as an electronic technician for the water dept. and then went on to the Reservoir Police. He retired in 1991.
Ray was a veteran of WWll serving in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Winnebago in the North Atlantic. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Ray enjoyed gardening and taking walks. He could repair just about anthing and loved tinkering around his cellar workshop creating works of art out of wood. He was very unique with his quick wit, humor and was always the life of the party. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was the proud father of six children, Steven and his wife, Annette Desjean of Baldwinville, MA, Russell and wife, Lena Desjean of San Diego, CA., David Desjean of Fitchburg, MA, Patricia and husband, Robert Howe of Fitchburg, MA, Joyce and husband, Kevin Houle of Baldwinville, MA, his grandchildren whom he adored, Mary Desjean, Jennifer Colazzo, Keith Desjean, Alicia and Theodore Howe, SGT. Jordan S. Bain and Ashleigh Bain, Tyler Desjean, and Chad Desjean; three great-granddaughters, Lauren Colazzo, Lilith Rush, and Aubrey Desjean; two brothers, Richard and Roland Desjean, three sisters, Jeannette Desjean, Betty Baldarelli, and Anita Paquette; along with several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his oldest son, Thomas Desjean in 2012, his brothers, Paul and Armand Desjean and his loving wife, Jeanne (Cormier) Desjean on April 17, 2007. They were married in 1949 and had a long and happy marriage. They were members of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster, MA.
DESJEAN -- There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA to celebrate the lives of both Raymond and his wife Jeanne. Inurnment for Raymond and Jeanne will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, where together, they will begin their journey into eternal peace. There are no calling hours.
