SHIRLEY -- Rita E. (Bond) DeVarney, 88, of Shirley, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Health Alliance, Leominster.
Her husband, Joseph I. DeVarney, died in July 2004.
Mrs. DeVarney was born in Leominster, July 15, 1924, a daughter of Arthur and Mary (Taylor) Bond, and resided much of her life in Shirley.
She worked many years as a stitcher at the former George Frost Suspender Company in Shirley before retiring in 1986.
She leaves three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Gloria DeVarney of Mexico, Joseph R. and Phyllis DeVarney of Shirley, Ronald A. and Leslie DeVarney of Hampton Beach, NH; a sister, Elaine Denencourt of Florida; six grandchildren, Kim Shorey, Karen Shorey, Jennifer Aiesi, Evelyn DeVarney, Sherri Boccia, and Kenneth DeVarney, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Arthur Bond Jr., Donald Bond, Marilyn Gionet, Claire Denencourt, and Doris Bond. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Rose Marie Nizinski.
Mrs. DeVarney had attended St. Anthony's Church in Shirley, and was a former member of the Moose Club in Lunenburg.
DeVARNEY -- Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 26th at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd., (Rte. 2A) Ayer. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information. Spring burial will be in Village Cemetery. Calling hours are 4-7 p..m, Monday.
