MAGNOLIA, Texas -- Wallace Robinson Mason, Jr., 70, passed away, December 18, 2013.
He was born to the late Wallace R. and Virginia M. Mason, May 13, 1943 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Wally (Rob) graduated from Leominster High School in 1961. In June, 1970, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts (Boston) with a BA degree in Physics. Later, in December of 1981, he graduated from Northern Illinois University in De Kalb, Illinois, where in earned an MBA degree.
Upon graduation from High School, Wally enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served for four years as an Electronics Technician. He spent time in San Clemente, CA, and Hawaii. While serving in Hawaii, he met and later married his wife of nearly 45 years, Mary Stanley Mason, in December, 1968.
Upon graduation from college in 1971, Wally began his career with Shell Oil Company as a civil engineer. He retired from Shell in 2007 as a manager in procurement. While residing in Hawaii with his family for five years ('87 through '92), Wally was employed by Shell and PRI/Gas Express. He served as general manager of Gas Express for the Islands. Among some of the Boards he served on were, The March of Dimes, MADD, Honolulu Traffic Safety Council, and The United Way.
An avid gardener and real handy man, Wally also loved reading, computers, cameras and electronics. Politics was a real interest, too. He continued his love for swimming into his retirement and always loved and supported his hometown sports teams. A true family man, in every sense of the word, made being a grandfather to his seven granddaughters by far his favorite pastime.
Wally is survived by his wife, Mary, Magnolia, TX, of his children, Wallace R. Mason III and family, of Magnolia, TX, Craig S. Mason and family of Katy, TX, and Samantha K. Phillips and family of Spring, TX and seven granddaughters.
He is also survived by his brother, Edward M. Mason and family of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and youngest brother, William E. Mason and family of Houston, TX.
