Ann Elizabeth (Alger) Milbourne, 83, of Satellite Beach, Florida, died at home with her family by her side on Thursday, May 29, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born on 21 September 1930 in Manila, Philippines. She is the daughter of the late CPT. Maurice P. Sr. and Jennie (Crockett) Alger.
Ann was homeschooled in the Philippines until 1940, when she and her parents returned to the United States. The Alger family bought homes in the Adirondacks on Fourth Lake and in Georgiana Merritt Island, FL. Ann graduated from Cocoa High School in 1948 and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1952 with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She returned to Florida and trained at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, where she met her future husband, John C. "Mel" Milbourne in a roller rink. Mel, a native of Oxford, OH was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach at the time. They were married in Georgiana in her parent's riverfront home in 1953. The couple bought a home in 1960 in Satellite Beach.. Ann never practiced Nursing after her marriage as she and Mel bore five children during their marriage. In 1970 Mel's distinguished career as an aerospace engineer carried the family to Houston, TX. The family resided there for some thirteen years. Thereafter, the couple relocated to College Park, Maryland. In 1985 the couple returned to their Satellite Beach home. Ann continued to maintain her Nursing license until her death. During her retirement years she loved to spend time with family and friends, traveling with her children, reading and hiking, in addition to feeding the abundant wildlife at her home. Ann and husband Mel were faithful and consistent in the study of the Word as extended members of Berachah Church in Houston, Texas since the early 1960's.
