Costantino "Costa" Scaffidi, 91, of Cocoa Beach, FL, died peacefully on July 2, 2013. Costa was born July 14, 1921, in New York City, NY.
He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in New York City, New York, in 1940. After graduating, he worked briefly before being drafted into the United States Army in 1943. He later used his GI Bill to attend Montana State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951 and subsequently, held several mechanical design and engineering jobs. In 1957, he was hired as a civil service mechanical engineer for the U.S. Air Force at Patrick AFB, FL. He retired in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidoro and Antonia Scaffidi; his brother, Rosario Scaffidi; and brother-in-law, Robert LaTronica. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Francesca; daughter and son-in-law, Giovanna and Aaron Wilt; three grandchildren; two sisters, Santa Scaffidi and Mary LaTronica; sister-in-law, Frances Scaffidi; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach on Sunday, July 7th from 5:00-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial followed by military honors will be held at Church of Our Saviour in Cocoa Beach on Monday, July 8th at 10:30 AM. He will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
