Doff Daniel Griffith

West Melbourne, FL

Doff Daniel Griffith, 88, of W. Melbourne, FL, passed away Sunday evening January 26, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Doff was married 65 years to the love of his life, Irene Griffith, who survives along with their daughter, Brenda (Mark) Cavanaugh of Akron, OH, son David Griffith (FIT '81) of Fort Lauderdale, two grandchildren, Brett Cavanaugh of Pittsburgh, PA (wife Jennifer and great grandchildren, Sammy, Ben, Isaac), and Keri Cavanaugh of Cleveland, OH.

Doff was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Susan and Henry Cleveland Griffith (1967), sister JoAnn (Robert) Hood; and four brothers, Marlin (Margie), Jimmy, Ardel (Nadine and Izzy), and Charlie (Betty) Griffith.

Doff was a veteran of the US Navy, and graduated as a Physical Therapist from the Medical College of Richmond, VA in 1952, settling in the Akron, OH, area where he practiced for over 30 years.

Doff was ahead of his time, and as far back as the early 1970's stressed and taught ergonomics, and made recommendations of the benefits of opening wellness facilities, for employees and patients, that are now common place.

Doff and Irene moved to Florida in 1984, and after passing the FL PT Medical board, worked at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, FL until he retired in 1992.

Doff was a 32nd Degree Mason, a lifetime member of the Azan Shriner's, and was a former Esquire in the Melbourne Elks Lodge. Doff and Irene enjoyed most weekends over the past 30 years at the Lodge with their many beloved friends dancing the night away.

Doff was a skilled and avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, Irene's cooking, and most of all being with his family, grandchildren, and visits with their great grandchildren. Doff had a quick wit, and we look forward to hearing his jokes again one day.

The family will greet friends at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, Melbourne, from 2pm to 4pm, on Thursday, January 30, 2014, immediately followed by a memorial service, officiated by Rev. Dionne Hammond.

Messages of sympathy may be made at www.afcfcare.com and The Akron Beacon Journal (www.ohio.com/obituaries).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doff's honor to the Elks Lodge 1744, 211 Nieman Avenue, Melbourne 32901, the First United Methodist Church, 110 East New Haven Avenue, Melbourne 32901, or the William Childs Hospice Center, 381 Medplex Pkwy., Palm Bay, FL 32907.
