Donald Gilbert Rhodes
Donald Gilbert Rhodes, DDS (age 80), died on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Melbourne, FL. He was born in Windsor, NC on October 29, 1933. Don started a dental practice in Brevard County in 1961 after completing military service as a United States Air Force Captain, serving as a dentist at Patrick AFB.
Dr. Rhodes practiced dentistry for 35 years in Satellite Beach and Melbourne, FL. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and for many years raised bird dogs he used throughout the state on frequent hunting trips. In 1975 he was appointed as a member of the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission by Governor Reubin Askew. He proudly served on the commission for eight years including as chairman. He was a past member of the Rotary Club of Satellite Beach, and past President of The Brevard County Dental Association. Don enjoyed golfing, particularly after his retirement from dentistry.
Don was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC in 1955, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - School of Dentistry in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne McKee Rhodes; daughter, Shannon R. Hill (Gregory); granddaughters, Blair Alexandra Hill, Holland McKee Hill, and grandson, Gregory H. Hill, Jr. He was predeceased by his son, Chadley M. Rhodes, sister, Rebecca Edwards, and brother, Lowell "Buddy" Rhodes.
A small, family service will be held at a future date and his ashes will be interred at Florida Memorial Cemetery.
