Eddie Roberts

Merritt Island, FL

Captain Eddie L. Roberts passed away on November 25, 2013 at the age of 75. Eddie was born on December 19th in 1937 in Cook County Georgia, the third of seven children born to B. R. and Jewel Roberts, (Both Deceased). He graduated from Moultrie High School in Moultrie, Ga.; attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga, later received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

He was employed by Pan American World Airways at Patrick AFB, worked down range at Mayaguez Puerto Rico and San Salvador, Bahamas Island. Afterwards joined Martin Marietta Aerospace, now Lockheed Martin Corp at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, retiring in 1993 after 33 years and completed his career as Manager of Materiel Operations and Logistics.

He had a deep love for ocean sport fishing, started a part time charter sporting fishing charter business with his son Captain Derwood Roberts out of Port Canaveral in 1973.

He held a 100 ton USCG Masters Captains License, from 1989, until 2009, he owned and operated the well known 48 ft Sportfisherman 'Sea Venture" for regular offshore and Bahamas sportfishing trips. He formed the local Canaveral Charter Captains Association in 1999 which is active today with some 40 Captain members.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, VellDean, Son Captain Derwood and his wife Debbie of Merritt Island, Grand children, Carter Roberts and Zozie Pettiegrew. Sisters Dorothy Baker, Brother Earl (Bud), his wife Shirley, Brother Charles, his wife Lillian, Brother Wayne, his wife Doris, Sister Ann, her husband Roy, Sister Linda, her husband Caroll everal nieces and nephews.

Eddie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island where a Memorial service is scheduled on December 7th, 11AM.

In Lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made to or the Hospices Foundation of the Wuesthoff Hospital, Cocoa, Florida.
