Elna Louise Hendrix Hollowell Obituary

Elna Louise Hendrix Hollowell passed away Monday, November 12, 2012. She was born December 6, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa.

A lifelong Educator and Guidance Counselor Mrs. Hollowell is survived by Bob, her high school and college sweetheart, and husband of 56 years. She is also survived by her four children, Sue Falcioni (Steve), Bob, Cindi Vetsch (Leon), and Dan (Heidi), 8 grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.

She and her husband crisscrossed the country with four small children as Bob accepted missile assignments in Long Island, NY, Norfolk, VA, Lewistown, MT, and Cheyenne, WY before landing in Merritt Island, Florida in 1965.

While her children were still in grammar school she returned to her own education earning degrees at Rollins College and Stetson University culminating with a Masters in Elementary Guidance. She worked the majority of her tenure at Tropical Elementary on Merritt Island, first as a classroom teacher and later as the Guidance Counselor and Academic Specialist. Even after retirement, she would frequently return to substitute teach or help administer the state FCAT exam.

Her legacy stretches far beyond her immediate family. She was a member and senior reagent of the Merritt Island Women of the Moose, Phi Beta Kappa professional fraternity, and an officer of the Merritt Island Women's Club.

Arrangements are by Wylie - Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island.

Donations can be made to MooseHeart, MooseHaven, or the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard County.

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held in January 2013.
